Join us at the Seattle Design Center on March 5th from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM for an empowering event in honor of International Women’s Day. “Women in Design: Define and Demand Your Value” is an afternoon dedicated to championing women in the construction, architecture, engineering, manufacturing, and design industries—industries where women continue to break barriers, carve out space, and redefine success on their own terms.

The event will open with a compelling presentation by Reflection Marketing, focused on helping women define their professional worth and confidently demand the value they bring to their industries. Following the presentation, we will host an exclusive panel discussion featuring four dynamic women business owners who have navigated these fields and forged their own paths.

MEET THE PANELISTS

The discussion will be moderated by Nicole Martin of Woodpecker Flooring, guiding a conversation on key industry challenges. Topics include breaking barriers as a woman in a male-dominated field, recognizing and negotiating your worth, and strategies for self-promotion and career growth.

Throughout the event, guests will enjoy refreshments and light bites, with a networking happy hour following the panel discussion. During the happy hour, guests will be invited to participate in a special floral activity symbolizing growth, strength, and appreciation.

ABOUT OUR KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Spring Design Day 2025 Barrie Benson Photo

As the principal designer behind Barrie Benson Interior Design, Barrie creates spaces that aren’t just beautiful, but personal, joyful, and welcoming. Since founding her firm in 2000, Barrie has earned a name for herself by balancing the modern with the traditional in her signature interiors. She transforms residences (like her own iconic 1950s ranch) with an inimitable blend of styles to achieve a singular mood, and approaches commercial spaces with the same attention to detail as residential ones, creating distinctive narratives for everything from a family home in the Queen City, to a barrier island beach retreat, to a beloved collection of gourmet markets and restaurants.

In 2018, Barrie and gallerist Chandra Johnson founded the arts-driven organization Peg Norriss, which creates capsule collections for interiors through exclusive, custom collaborations with artists in partnership with Schumacher. Barrie also designs a signature line of furniture for Highland House and a collection of decorative hardware and accessories in collaboration with Modern Matter.

Barrie is a board member of the Mint Museum and the University of Georgia Lamar Dodd School of Art. A true lover of the arts, she regularly visits her favorite galleries and art fairs around the world—as well as new ones she is constantly discovering. Barrie’s work has appeared in AD, Coastal Living, Domino, Elle Dècor, Garden & Gun, House Beautiful, Southern Living, Veranda and The Wall Street Journal.

Founded by Kathleen Glossa on the principle of designing with intention, Seattle-based Swivel Interiors specializes in creating spaces that capture and communicate its clients’ authentic, individual styles and sensibilities. As a boutique residential design firm, Swivel offers a synergistic range of services including interior design, custom furniture design, and art curation. With more than a decade of experience working on interiors that run the gamut of styles from traditional to modern, the team at Swivel upholds a strong commitment to detail in order to meet each client’s goals while also thoughtfully and holistically integrating architecture and interior space.

It was a love for people, and a passion for embodying her clients’ energies and personalities through their spaces, that first drew Kathleen to the field of design.
